Gauff rallies, Krejcikova breaks through to 3rd round at Wimbledon
Coco Gauff dug deep to survive a third-set tiebreak scare while Barbora Krejcikova eased past her opponent in straight sets on Centre Court.
Coco Gauff survived a third-set deficit and a set point in the tiebreak to outlast Solana Sierra 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7) and advance to Wimbledon’s third round on Monday. Gauff dropped the second set but dominated the decider, converting her fourth match point after Sierra netted a backhand on set point. Barbora Krejcikova, meanwhile, needed just 74 minutes to dismiss her opponent and book her spot in the next round.
Krejcikova, a former French Open champion, overpowered her rival with 18 winners against five unforced errors, sealing the win with a 6-2, 6-2 scoreline. Gauff’s escape act highlights the razor-thin margins separating contenders from early exits at the All England Club. By staving off elimination on Centre Court, the American demonstrated the mental fortitude required to navigate a Grand Slam draw, proving her title defense is built on resilience rather than just dominance.
