Waelti, 14, to step onto Wimbledon’s hallowed grass
Moutier native Jonas Waelti, the youngest Swiss qualifier in a decade, will trade junior circuits for Wimbledon’s iconic lawns this summer.

Jonas Waelti, 14, from Moutier, will make his Wimbledon debut on grass this summer after qualifying for the prestigious junior event at the All England Club. Waelti’s breakthrough follows a rapid rise through the Swiss junior ranks, culminating in qualification for the Wimbledon Junior Championships where he’ll face the world’s top 14-and-under players on the sport’s most iconic surface. The tournament runs alongside the main draw at SW19, offering a rare stage for teenage prodigies to test their skills against peers destined for stardom.
Beyond Wimbledon, Waelti has also been named to Switzerland’s roster for the European Team Championships, a continental team competition that pits national junior teams against each other. The event serves as a proving ground for future Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup talent, with Switzerland entering as a mid-tier squad seeking upward mobility. Waelti’s inclusion in both competitions underscores his accelerated development.
