Samsonova through to third round of Wimbledon
Russian defeats compatriot Schneider and prepares for match against Czech Bouzková.

Liudmila Samsonova secured a gutsy victory over Diana Schneider in the second round of Wimbledon and is through to the third round of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament. The Russian tennis player defeated her 15th-seeded compatriot in three sets, displaying character and class in the crucial moments of the match and keeping her hopes alive for a deep run in the draw. The match was closely contested and hard-fought, with neither player willing to concede.
Samsonova took the first set 6-4, managing to convert key games on serve. In the second set, Schneider, a young and promising player, gathered herself and seized the initiative, taking it 4-6. It seemed the momentum of the match could swing significantly against the experienced Russian, but Samsonova found the resources for a decisive surge.
