Chwalinska gets injured and loses in the 1st round
Poland was leading and serving for the match, but a sprained ankle gave the Thai qualifier a historic victory.
Maja Chwalinska saw her Wimbledon dream turn into a nightmare in an instant, suffering a devastating injury while serving for victory, in a cruel stroke of luck that defined the match. The Polish dominated the qualified Thai Mananchaya Sawangkaew, comfortably leading the second set 5-3 and positioning her body to execute the service that would end the match. However, the movement resulted in a violent ankle sprain, knocking Chwalinska down in agony and erasing the pace that had given her the advantage.
The scenario changed drastically from that moment on. Seeing his opponent offside, Sawangkaew regained his confidence, reversed the outcome of the set to 7-5 and dominated the third set with a categorical 6-2. The final score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 does not reflect the Pole's initial dominance, but rather the severity of the physical incident.
