Chris Evert skips Wimbledon after cancer recurrence
18-time Slam champion steps away from tennis to prioritize chemotherapy after ovarian cancer returns for the second time.
Tennis legend Chris Evert will not play Wimbledon this year after announcing a recurrence of ovarian cancer. The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, revealed the news on social media. Evert stated she has already undergone surgery and will begin chemotherapy.
The three-time Wimbledon champion said she is stepping back from professional commitments to prioritize her treatment. The announcement arrives just before the Netflix documentary *Chris & Martina*, which chronicles Evert’s and Martina Navratilova’s battles with cancer, is set to premiere. Evert, a fixture of Wimbledon coverage for decades, will miss the tournament she helped define.
