Trae Young inks $212M deal to stay with Wizards
Washington locks in its All-NBA point guard through 2028 with a franchise-altering supermax extension.

Trae Young is staying in Washington. The Washington Wizards agreed to a four-year, $212 million supermax contract with the All-NBA point guard, according to ESPN. The deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 season, giving Young final say on his future after the 2026-27 campaign.
The contract locks Young in as the franchise’s cornerstone through at least 2027 and positions the Wizards to build around a perennial All-Star. The financial commitment ranks among the league’s largest ever for a guard, reflecting Young’s status as a top-tier scorer and playmaker. Washington’s front office framed the move as a core-building step, betting on Young’s elite production to anchor a contender.
