Wilyer Abreu’s two-run blast and Connelly Early’s six-inning gem lift Boston in a must-win series opener against Seattle.

Wilyer Abreu crushed a two-run homer and Connelly Early delivered a masterful six-inlet start as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-1 on Saturday night at Fenway Park. Abreu’s 12th homer of the season, a 420-foot blast to left-center in the third inning, broke a 1-1 tie and gave Boston the lead for good. The damage didn’t stop there: Rafael Devers added a solo shot in the seventh, while Reese McGuire’s RBI single in the eighth sealed the win.
