Sebastien Desabre: DR Congo's Historic World Cup Architect
The French manager ends a 50-year drought and brings the Leopards back to the global stage.

Sebastien Desabre has steered DR Congo to their first FIFA World Cup since 1974, ending a 52-year absence for the national team. The French coach, appointed in 2023, delivered the Leopards to the 2026 tournament after a dominant Africa qualification campaign. DR Congo topped Group B with five wins and one draw, finishing 11 points clear of second-placed Guinea.
Their 2-0 victory over Mauritania in November 2025 sealed top spot and confirmed their place in North America. Desabre’s résumé includes stints in Egypt’s Premier League with Pyramids FC and Morocco’s Botola, where he won the 2022 league title with Wydad Casablanca. His African pedigree and tactical flexibility have reshaped DR Congo’s identity, shifting from a sporadic qualifier to a cohesive unit capable of challenging traditional powers.
