The 18-year-old Italian, number 172 in the world ranking, lost to the Czech Marie Bouzkova, seeded number 21, with a score of 7-6 6-3 in a match that lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes. Grant had come through qualifying and won the first round, but against Bouzkova she showed both her potential and her limitations.
