Neil joins Rangers: 'I need that pressure to drive me'
Free-agent midfielder Dan Neil leaves Sunderland after eight years to chase Rangers’ winning culture and the same fan-fuelled intensity that powered his boyhood club’s 2025 Premier League return.

Dan Neil has signed for Rangers on a free transfer, ending eight seasons at Sunderland to chase the Ibrox club’s winning culture. The 24-year-old midfielder, who captained Sunderland to Premier League promotion in 2025, said he thrives under pressure and wants to replicate the fan-driven motivation he felt at the Black Cats. Neil, 24, arrives at Rangers as a free agent after eight years at Sunderland, where he wore the armband and led the club back to the top flight.
