Sonego beats Diallo 7-6 4-6 7-6 6-7 6-3, flies to the third round at Wimbledon
Lorenzo Sonego beats Gabriel Diallo in five sets at the limit, 14 aces and resistance on grass. Now he awaits Taylor Fritz for a high-tension third round.

Lorenzo Sonego pushed Gabriel Diallo to the limit and then beyond, finishing 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 in a third round of Wimbledon 2026 that will remain in the annals for intensity and decisive shots. The battle lasted four hours and eighteen minutes, with Sonego asserting his best weapon: his serve. Fourteen aces set the pace, but it was the ability to withstand the pressure that made the difference.
The Turin player closed two sets in the tie-break and won the fifth at 6-3, after canceling two championship points in the fourth set. Diallo, fresh from an excellent tournament at Queen's, showed character but not enough to contain Sonego's wave. The Canadian won the second set 6-4, but the third and fifth remained firmly in the hands of the Italian, who closed with a total of 42 winners against his opponent's 38.
