Algeria stun Jordan with late turnaround to end World Cup debuts
Nizar Al Rashdan’s opener wasn’t enough as Algeria’s substitutes rewrote Group J with a dramatic 2-1 comeback in California. The result hands Algeria a commanding position and sets up a winner-takes-all clash with France.

Algeria erased a World Cup debut in stunning fashion, overturning a Jordanian lead to win 2-1 in Santa Clara and send the North Africans top of Group J. Jordan’s Nizar Al Rashdan put the debutants ahead in the 12th minute, but Algeria’s bench turned the game around. Nadhir Benbouali equalized in the 69th minute after a Riyad Mahrez corner, and Amine Gouiri’s 82nd-minute strike sealed the three points.
