Belgium overcame a Senegal that took a 2-0 lead in the final minutes of the second half and eliminated the Africans in extra time, in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. The European team repeated the historic comeback against Japan in 2018, with goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku in the final minutes. The match, played in Doha, saw Senegal control much of the game with superior ball possession and high pressure, but Belgium reacted with two goals in three minutes in the second half: first De Bruyne, at 43, taking advantage of a poorly defended corner, and then Lukaku, at 45, after a rebound from a save by Édouard Mendy.
