Sakkari: From 0-6 to 7-6 – dramatic Wimbledon win keeps hopes alive
Maria Sakkari avoided the upset with a thrilling 6-3, 0-6, 7-6(7) comeback victory over Kamilla Rakhimova at Wimbledon, displaying composure under pressure.

Maria Sakkari made history with a dramatic comeback at Wimbledon, defeating Kamilla Rakhimova 6-3, 0-6, 7-6(7) in the second round to keep her hopes of a deep run on the grass court alive. Sakkari started strongly, winning the first set 6-3, but Rakhimova fought back emphatically in the second, sealing a 0-6 set in under 25 minutes. In the third set, the Greek champion showed remarkable composure, holding serve until the tiebreak, where she prevailed 7-6(7) to secure the win.
The victory was particularly significant for Sakkari, as she had been eliminated early at the previous Grand Slam, the French Open. The win keeps her path open for a strong run in the tournament, while Rakhimova missed the chance to cause a major upset in the women’s singles. 'It was a match where I had to bring my character to the surface,' Sakkari said after the match.
