Eskas set to referee Portugal-Croatia World Cup knockout
Norway’s top referee Espen Eskas, a Champions League and Euro 2024 veteran, will officiate a high-stakes Round of 32 duel that could mark the final World Cup act for Cristiano Ronaldo or Luka Modrić.

Norwegian referee Espen Eskas, 37, will take charge of the World Cup Round of 32 showdown between Portugal and Croatia in Toronto. Eskas, a Champions League and Euro 2024 veteran, arrives with tournament experience after overseeing Uruguay’s 0-0 draw with Cape Verde and serving as fourth official for Scotland’s 0-2 loss to Brazil. He will be flanked by assistant referees Jan Erik Engan and Isaak Bashevkin, both Norwegian, for a match that could define the World Cup swansong of two modern icons.
