Oscar De La Hoya declared Jaron Ennis’ seventh-round knockout of Xander Zayas a ‘machine-like’ performance and immediately called for a blockbuster 154lb showdown with Vergil Ortiz. Ennis (29-0, 26 KOs) dismantled Zayas (17-2, 12 KOs) at Barclays Center on Saturday, dropping the challenger three times before referee Steve Gray halted the fight at 1:59 of the seventh round. The stoppage capped a one-sided beatdown in which Ennis landed 169 of 388 punches (44%) while Zayas connected on just 69 of 253 (27%).
