Nationals take series lead with win over Phillies
Philly drops opener to Washington, forcing a must-win at home to stay in the NL East hunt.

The Washington Nationals struck first in the series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 5–3 at Citizens Bank Park to take a 1–0 lead in the NL East. The win puts the Phillies on the back foot early in a tight divisional race, with both teams now separated by just a half-game in the standings. The Nationals jumped out to a 3–0 lead in the second inning, thanks to a two-run homer from Juan Soto and an RBI single from Keibert Ruiz.
