French football icon Eric Roy has died at 58 after a three-and-a-half-year fight with pancreatic cancer. Roy, who captained Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille in his playing days, was head coach of Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois when he passed on June 17. His family announced the death, sparking an outpouring of tributes from former teammates, rivals, and the broader French football community.
