Kane passes Pelé’s WC tally in England’s must-win scrape
Two Kane strikes erase Congo DR, send Three Lions into Round of 16 despite midfield muddle.

Harry Kane erased Pelé’s World Cup goals record in a single half, drilling two headers as England laboured to a 2-1 win over Congo DR that clinched a Round of 16 berth on Sunday in San Diego. The 30-year-old striker’s 13th and 14th career World Cup strikes—both in the first 45 minutes—catapulted him past Pelé’s long-standing total of 12 and into uncharted territory for England. Kane’s first came off a Luke Shaw cross in the 19th minute, a towering header that gave England the lead they could not surrender.
