Worcestershire and Gloucestershire split the wickets on a balanced opening day in their County Championship clash. Seven wickets fell in a low-scoring tussle as both sides fought for control at New Road. Gloucestershire batted first and managed just 187 all out, with Worcestershire’s spin duo of Jack Haynes (3/45) and Brett D’Oliveira (2/32) leading the attack.
Worcestershire’s reply was anchored by Tom Fell, who top-scored with 52, but they were dismissed for 194, handing Gloucestershire a slender first-innings lead of 7 runs. The visitors responded with 178 all out in their second innings, leaving Worcestershire a target of 172 to win. Worcestershire’s innings was built around a patient 48 from Ben Cox, but they finished on 144/5 at stumps, still 28 runs short with five wickets in hand.
