Pegula: Indian Wells is the best option
American tennis player approved the WTA Finals move to the California resort but demanded a reduction in the grueling schedule.

Jessica Pegula approved the WTA Finals' relocation to Indian Wells, calling it a pragmatic decision amid failed negotiations with Riyadh, and openly criticized the grueling two-week tournament format. The move to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden became the only viable option after the planned transfer to the capital of Saudi Arabia fell through. Pegula emphasized that the WTA simply didn’t have time to seek other organizers, making the California venue a forced logistical necessity.
This decision stabilizes the season-ending championship’s position in the near future, ensuring its staging at a proven location. Notably, the American tennis hub has already hosted the tournament in 2021 and 2022, confirming its readiness for major events. Beyond location concerns, Pegula highlighted a deeper issue: the physical exhaustion of athletes.
