StubHub Cancels World Cup Tickets, Fans Sue
Families lose thousands as resale platform cancels orders days before the tournament begins.
Hundreds of World Cup fans face financial ruin and travel chaos after StubHub invalidated their tickets just days before the 2026 tournament kicks off. The mass cancellations have left supporters who paid thousands of dollars stranded without entry to matches they planned to attend across the 16 host cities. Families who paid resale prices climbing as high as $2,800 found themselves with useless digital barcodes and no way to attend the games.
The sudden voiding of sales hit travelers who had already finalized flights and accommodation, resulting in significant monetary loss and logistical nightmares. The timing could not be worse, disrupting plans years in the making for the global sporting event. Legal action has commenced against the resale giant.
Sergio Enrique Alvarado Montalvo and Eben Pingree filed a class-action lawsuit accusing StubHub of failing to deliver tickets despite receiving full payment. The complaint highlights the platform's inability to secure the inventory it sold, turning a dream trip into a disaster for plaintiffs including Julie Reeker Moghal and Reuben Renteria. StubHub has shifted responsibility to FIFA’s new ticketing application, claiming technical transfer issues caused the voided sales.
