The fifth day of the 2026 World Cup in North America ended with four draws that left little flavor. Spain did not go beyond 0-0 against Cape Verde, while Belgium and Egypt tied 1-1. Uruguay and Saudi Arabia also shared the point after a 1-1 draw, and the most vibrant match was Iran-New Zealand, which finished 2-2 with four goals in the last quarter.
Spain, with as the main creator, failed to break Cape Verde's defense in a locked match in . The African team, in their first World Cup, held their own with a line of five at the back and lethal counterattacks. Danish referee Jakob Kehlet showed only two yellow cards, both to players from Cape Verde.
