USA grinds out win, advances to World Cup Round of 16
Folarin Balogun’s brace of goals—one scored, one dismissed—seals a nervy 1-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina and a knockout-stage berth for the hosts.

The United States scraped past Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 to secure a place in the World Cup Round of 16, surviving a 10-man fight for 23 minutes after Folarin Balogun’s controversial red card. Balogun opened the scoring in the 35th minute at AT&T Stadium, slotting home a rebound after a blocked effort by Bosnia keeper Ibrahim Sehic. The goal stood despite Bosnia protests of an offside call against Amar Dedic in the buildup, a decision upheld by VAR.
Minutes later, Balogun lunged into a high challenge on Bosnia midfielder Miralem Pjanic and was shown a straight red by referee Anthony Taylor, a call that drew immediate protests from the Bosnian bench. From that moment, the United States dug in. Head coach Boro Primorac shuffled his lineup, shifting Tyler Adams into a deeper role and deploying Yunus Musah as a false nine to bolster creativity.
