Serena Williams will return to the Wimbledon singles draw after almost two years of absence. The tournament organization granted him a wildcard invitation, confirming his participation in the competition that begins on July 1. The 42-year-old American has not played a Grand Slam singles match since her defeat in the 2022 US Open semifinals against Ajla Tomljanović.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion will compete on her favorite surface: grass, where she has seven Wimbledon titles (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016). Her last match on grass was at the Berlin tournament in June 2021, where she lost in the second round to Belinda Bencic. Williams has maintained her preparation on the doubles circuit, where she has added recent titles, including the WTA in Charleston in April 2024 with her sister Venus Williams.
