Canes land six prospects in 2026 draft with trades for two defensemen
Carolina turned one pick into four selections, landing William Håkansson and Wiggo Sörensson—two defensemen analysts say fit their system—plus four more prospects in a draft-day haul.

Carolina Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky engineered a draft-day coup, converting the team’s third-round pick (#31 overall) into four selections and six prospects at the 2026 NHL Draft. The haul is headlined by defensemen William Håkansson (2nd round, #51) and Wiggo Sörensson (2nd round, #61), two players analysts say align with the Hurricanes’ system. Håkansson, 19, spent last season with Luleå HF in Sweden’s SHL and posted two goals and six points in 42 games while logging nearly 17 minutes per night.
