Lando Norris has offered a blunt assessment of Formula 1's current technical direction, stating that the sport's hybrid power unit era has strayed too far from pure racing. The McLaren driver acknowledged that recent energy management tweaks trialled during practice represented a 'small step in the right direction' but argued that the fundamental issue remains the battery-heavy nature of modern F1. Norris suggested that despite driver input shaping recent regulatory adjustments, the sport cannot fully return to a format where drivers can truly push without restriction while maintaining current power unit architecture.
