Göztepe loaned Chelsea-trained Alex Matos
The 21-year-old English midfielder, who was transferred from Sheffield United with a purchase option, will bring a new breath to the yellow-reds' midfield.
In order to strengthen its midfield rotation in the Super League, Göztepe loaned Chelsea youth player Alex Matos from Sheffield United with an option to buy. Even though the 21-year-old English midfielder could not get the expected playing time in the Championship team last season, he came to Izmir to adapt to the coach's system. Coach Stanimir Stoilov's game approach is based on dynamic midfielders who press and receive the ball.
Matos is the ideal candidate to fill this gap with his ball control and forward-playing skills, which he acquired at the Chelsea academy. Against the playmaking difficulties that Göztepe experienced last season, Matos's physical presence in double fights and creative passing options can add a different dimension to the yellow-reds' offensive organization. This move is not just a backup plan, but has the potential to become a direct part of the eleven.
