Parreira and Lamouchi: record dismissals in World Cups
Historic rout and lightning dismissal: Lamouchi's record and Parreira's pioneering spirit.

Carlos Alberto Parreira was the first coach fired during a World Cup, in 1998, after Saudi Arabia's early elimination in France. The negative feat, which seemed isolated, gained an even quicker chapter in the tournament's recent history. In 1998, Saudi Arabia lost to Denmark (1-0), France (4-0) and South Africa (2-2), being eliminated in the first phase.
Parreira, world champion in 1994 with Brazil, was fired before the end of the tournament, marking the first time that a coach was dismissed during a World Cup. Parreira's case remained the only one for 24 years. In 2022, at the Qatar Cup, Tunisia suffered a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the second round of the group stage.
