Extreme heat puts Portugal on red alert: maximum risk of fires
Six districts face extreme conditions until Sunday, with the minister calling for maximum caution to avoid rural fires in level 3 readiness.

Mainland Portugal faces a critical weekend: six districts are under red warning for extreme heat until Sunday, while another seven are under orange alert. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued warnings for Lisbon, Setúbal, Santarém, Beja, Évora and Portalegre, where temperatures and dry conditions create a perfect scenario for rural fires. The Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, classified the period as "tough" and appealed to the population to avoid any activity that could trigger fires.
