Thornton’s recall tests Mets’ bullpen depth vs. Phillies
Zach Thornton’s MLB return Friday adds a veteran arm to a Mets bullpen navigating interleague play and tight divisional races.

Zach Thornton is set to make his first MLB appearance since 2022 when he takes the mound for the New York Mets on Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. The Mets recalled Thornton from Triple-A Syracuse, according to The Athletic’s Will Sammon, via Rotowire. The right-hander, who last pitched in the majors on August 15, 2022, will slot into a bullpen that has leaned heavily on young arms this season.
