Balogun’s red card darkens USA’s World Cup path after Bosnia win
USA advance to Round of 16 with a gritty win, but Folarin Balogun’s dismissal for a stamp overshadows the breakthrough.

The USMNT secured their spot in the World Cup Round of 16 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina, but the win came with a costly caveat: Folarin Balogun was sent off for an accidental stamp in the 77th minute. Balogun, the tournament’s third-leading scorer with three goals, was shown a straight red card after his studs made contact with Bosnia defender Sanjin Prcić. The incident occurred during a second-half scramble near the Bosnia box, and referee István Kovács had no hesitation in brandishing the card.
