Kennedy returns to Har-Ber, reunites with Deffebaugh
Providence Academy’s departing boys basketball coach lands with Springdale Har-Ber, bringing long-time ties to Tommy Deffebaugh’s rebuilding Wildcats.
Velton Kennedy is leaving Providence Academy to reunite with Tommy Deffebaugh at Springdale Har-Ber High School. Kennedy, who coached at Providence Academy last season, will join Deffebaugh’s staff as the Wildcats gear up for the 2024–25 campaign. Kennedy’s departure from Providence Academy comes after one season at the helm.
He replaces an outgoing staff member and brings a fresh dynamic to Har-Ber’s program. Deffebaugh, entering his second season as head coach, is assembling a bench that prioritizes continuity and shared experience. The reunion underscores Har-Ber’s emphasis on culture-building.
Deffebaugh and Kennedy have collaborated before, and their connection is expected to streamline communication and player development. The move signals Har-Ber’s intent to tighten its locker-room identity ahead of league play. Springdale Har-Ber athletic director declined to comment on the hire.
