Renato Gaúcho leaves Vasco da Gama
63-year-old coach ends third spell at the Rio club after 22 games; team is in the relegation zone.
Vasco da Gama officially announced the departure of coach Renato Gaúcho, by mutual agreement, putting an end to the 63-year-old coach's third spell at the Rio club. The decision was taken after a sequence of bad results and a heavy atmosphere in the locker room, with the team occupying 17th position in the Brazilian Championship Series A, within the relegation zone. Renato Gaúcho's third spell at Vasco lasted 22 games, with just 50% success.
There were nine wins, six draws and seven defeats, numbers that fell short of the expectations of a club that seeks to regain its greatness in Brazilian football. The internal climate in the locker rooms became unsustainable, with reports of wear and tear between the coaching staff and cast, accelerating the outcome. Although the club did not disclose the details of the negotiation, the Vasco board acted quickly to contain the crisis.
