ASSE: Naïr signs long term to stabilize the defense
The Algerian defender arrives from Guingamp for six seasons, marking Ian Cathro's first goal.

AS Saint-Étienne has formalized the arrival of Sohaib Naïr, Algerian central defender from En Avant Guingamp, signing a contract which binds him to the Forez club until 2030. This transaction constitutes the first major operation of the summer transfer window under the Ian Cathro era and permanently fixes a key piece of the defensive hinge. The player, who is signing up for six seasons, arrives directly from Ligue 2 BKT with already proven technical and mental baggage.
Saint-Étienne is not taking any gambling risks by banking on an element that knows perfectly the requirements of the French championship. Naïr brings volume, rigor in heading play and a clean recovery capacity, assets deemed essential by the technical staff to seal the flaws observed last season. This arrival is part of the precise tactical line drawn by the new Scottish coach.
