The anterior cruciate ligament rupture suffered by Manuel Ugarte during Uruguay's World Cup defeat to Spain turned into a logistical nightmare for Manchester United. The English club was counting on the sale of the 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder as a fundamental piece to generate cash and finance the much-needed overhaul of the midfield in the European summer. Ugarte, who had been a €60 million signing from PSG just a year ago, was seriously injured in the quarter-final game.
